The path of a True Seeker

Kathy picked up a brochure from a literature evangelist stand in her local Dandenong market. The brochure had the South Pacific Division Publishing Ministries’ free call number on it so Kathy called and left a message.

Joe Paola, unit leader for the Melbourne Literature Evangelist Unit, returned Kathy’s phone call, and made an appointment to meet with her. Kathy told Joe on the phone that she wanted him to answer some questions about the SDA church.

During their visit that Monday morning, Joe found Kathy to be an intelligent, clear minded truth-seeker who felt the need to seek a spiritual experience. She explained to Joe that she began her spiritual journey by attending the Spiritualist Church, which she admitted may not have been a good placed to start! She then went to a Baptist church, and then onto a Pentecostal fellowship. In all 3 congregations, Kathy explained, she saw and experienced things that she felt uncomfortable with. Unsatisfied with the answers she received from the 3 different pastors, Kathy continued to feel impressed that the Sabbath had a special significance.

Now she asked Joe questions about the Sabbath, E.G. White, and speaking in tongues. Joe, in turn, shared with Kathy the story of his own spiritual walk.

As their visit drew to a close, Kathy asked Joe where the closest Seventh-day Adventist church was. Joe told her Dandenong to the East or Springvale to the West. Then the two knelt together in prayer. That day, Joe left a set of twenty ‘Search’ videos by evangelist Geoff Youlden for Kathy to watch.

At 12:30 pm the following afternoon Kathy called Joe and told him how much she loved those videos. She had already watched the entire series! When she said that she wanted the book offer from video’s 8, 9, 15 and 18 plus a copy of Steps to Christ, Joe knew she really had watched all twenty videos in a day and a half!

Unbeknown to Joe, the following Sabbath Kathy made her way to the Dandenong SDA Church and kept her first Sabbath. In fact, that Sabbath was a special visitor’s day planned by the church members. Kathy enjoyed both the Sabbath School and worship service. After church she met Pastor Noel Bolst, a retired publishing director and keen Bible student who was thrilled to discuss Bible topics with her.

God Provides These Opportunities. … God is the great Master Worker, and by His providence He prepares the way for His work to be accomplished. He provides opportunities, opens up lines of influence, and channels of working. If His people are watching the indications of His providence, and stand ready to co-operate with Him, they will see a great work accomplished.
