Joseph Nayar:
Literature Evangelist in a Secular Environment

Wilmar Hirle: How long have you been a Seventh-day Adventist?

Joseph Nayar: For seventeen years!

WH: And how long have you been working as a Literature Evangelist?

JN: For seventeen years!

WH: How did you get started in literature evangelism and why?

JN: I decided to become a literature evangelist because I love Jesus Christ and the message He gave to us, and I want all people to hear this message.

WH: Today as we were visiting people I watched you sell the Great Controversy, and I realized that you love to sell this one book: the Great Controversy. Why do you love this book so much?

JN: I began to really appreciate this book as I studied the sanctuary message. I studied the Bible and then I wanted to know what Ellen White wrote about the heavenly sanctuary. Before I read the Great Controversy, I thought this book was about church history and therefore could not sell this book to just anybody. But after I read it I realized that this book has a tremendous amount of information about the heavenly sanctuary, and what is taking place now. Then I knew—all people need to read this message about the grace of Jesus and what He is doing for us now.

WH: You know people need to hear this message and yet you work here in Austria, the heart of secular Europe. How do people react when you show them this book? What is their reaction when you tell them what is inside?

JN: In general, most people here want to know what will happen in the future. They have many questions, so I show them this book.

WH: How many books are you selling every month?

JN: You mean of the Great Controversy? I think I sell about 20-30 Great Controversy books each week. That makes about 100-120 of these books every month!

WH: That is tremendous! Besides the Great Controversy, are you selling other books too? Yes, in my experience when I focus my talk on the Great Controversy and the Desire of Ages the Lord gives me more sales of subscriptions and books.

WH: Tell me the total number of books you have sold per year during the last 3 years?

JN: More than 1,000 every year. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!

WH: How much do you sell every month? Tell me the total amount in Euros.

JN: Last month? Last month was very high for my sales. It was the highest month in 17 years! I think the total was €9,000, in one month! I want to praise God for this experience. It’s not my work but it’s the work of Jesus. He goes ahead and prepares the hearts of the people.

WH: Are you happy doing this?

JN: I’m very happy doing this.

WH: Think of LEs in other countries. What advice would you give to them?

JN: I want to encourage each LE to focus on books which teach about Jesus Christ as the center. Show these books, especially the Great Controversy so the people will know what Jesus is doing for them right now!
