GLOW-ing at the Gas Pump
One
afternoon as Bill was putting gas in his car at the local Valero, he
noticed a professionally dressed woman on the other side of the
pump. “I felt impressed to give her something before I left,” said
Bill. Not wanting to make a big scene, Bill casually walked over to
the woman and in an unassuming voice said, “Here’s something to read
when you’re bored.” He handed her a tract about Daniel 2 and headed
back to his car.
The woman looked intently at the small piece of literature before
challenging Bill, “What denomination is this?” Bill calmly replied
that he was a Christian, and pointed to the nearby church
headquarters where he worked. The woman’s expression immediately
softened and became nostalgic. “I can’t believe this” she said
quietly. “I was raised in that church but I haven’t been back in
years. In fact, I received this same piece of literature in the mail
a few days ago from a woman who attends that same church.”
As the conversation opened up Bill learned that the woman had a
teenage son. A father of two children himself, Bill began to tell
her about the active youth group at the local SDA church. By the end
of the conversation the woman expressed a desire to come back to
church. She was so impressed that she put her business card into
Bill’s hand and said, “Please, call me and remind me to come to
services this weekend. I need to come.”
Great men and women of God often use simple methods to do mighty
things for God. David didn’t use an army tank to defeat Goliath. He
used a simple stone. Sampson used a donkey’s jaw bone to wreak havoc
on the Philistines. Gideon’s advanced weaponry consisted of a jug, a
torch, and a horn. Jesus used, “It is written…”, a simple three word
phrase, to destroy Satan and his powerful temptations. In these last
days God is using simple methods of evangelism.
“You who believe the truth for this time, wake up. It is our duty
now to employ every possible means to help in the proclamation of
the truth. When you are riding on the cars, visiting, conversing
with your neighbors--wherever you are, let your light shine forth.
Hand out the papers and tracts to those with whom you associate…”

The next time you want to do something mighty for God, grab some
truth-filled literature and pray for God to send someone special
across your path.
