Feeding
Those Who Are Hungry
As Bible worker Jeff Bently picked up his ringing phone, the words,
“I felt impressed that I should call you,” caught his attention. On
the other end of the line was Reuben, a chef who lived directly
across the street from Jeff’s church. Reuben explained that he had
been reading a book called Ten Commandments Twice Removed.
A phone number on the first page and a handwritten statement
inviting him to call to find the answers to his toughest bible
questions caught his eye. When he saw the note Reuben felt impressed
to call the number, which connected him with Jeff.
“I live across the street and have seen you guys eating food through
the sliding glass door every weekend. I’ve always wondered what was
happening in there,” said Reuben. Jeff learned that Reuben was a
struggling crack addict who wanted the victory over it. Jeff
responded, “Hey, that’s no problem. The Lord helped me overcome
crack too. Would you like to study the bible together and come to
church next weekend?”
After talking to Jeff that day, Reuben came to church with both a
Bible and the Ten Commandments Twice Removed in hand. That
day he enjoyed his first Sabbath potluck inside the sliding glass
doors.
Reuben met God because the local Clovis church members took the time
to give out free literature and to feed those who were spiritually
hungry right next door.
“… there is a field of usefulness open before many of our brethren
and sisters in the placing of truth-filled publications in the homes
of their neighbors and friends.” PM 370.1
