Bus Station Evangelism

During the first quarter of 2007, two Literature Evangelists participating in the Light America Mission accepted the challenge of working among the hispanic population of Baltimore. Facing great hardship, Francisco Julca and Jose Sosa not only reached their sales goal for that period but had an amazing experience finding people thirsty for the Gospel.

One morning, before leaving to canvass, Francisco Julca, a Peruvian seminary student prayed that God would use him to touch someone in need. Little did he know that the previous night, God had heard a similar prayer.

Luiz Sanchez grew up in El Salvador during the Salvadorian revolution. His entire family was killed and he went to live with relatives. They provided him with shelter but little love and care. He was especially mistreated by an uncle, who frequently beat him without mercy. When he was old enough to leave, Luiz started using drugs, became a
gang member, making a living as a small time thief. Despite his bleak start in life, he always felt the desire for something better. In his search he joined a Pentecostal church while still in El Salvador.

A few years later Luiz came to the USA and soon fell victim of an old temptation, drug abuse. Incapable of forgiving his uncle, Luiz was also plagued by a profound anger and a thirst for revenge. But the Lord had other plans for him.
On the morning that Francisco prayed, his and Luiz’s paths crossed as they both waited for the morning bus. They didn't know each other but Francisco felt a strong impression to start a conversation with Luiz. And he did. After talking for more than an hour, Francisco offered to study the Bible with him. The meetings took place at the house of
another person found during canvassing and soon two families and Luiz were studying the Bible together.

On April 14, 2007 after completing the Bible lessons they were baptized in the Baltimore Spanish SDA Church. On that day Luiz cried profusely, not tears of despair but teas of joy. God had answered his prayer through Francisco.
During the same period the group of students working for project Light America Mission studied the Bible and led
more than 30 souls to Christ. They are now members of various Hispanic churches in the Chesapeake SDA Conference. They continue to study the Bible with many others who will soon join the Church.
