World Literature Ministry Coordinating Board

The World Literature Ministry Coordinating Board, held March 24-27, 2008 at the General Conference, was one of the most significant meetings ever held for the publishing ministry.

The WLMCB is a board created by the General Conference to serve as a central advisory, planning, mediating, and coordinating board for the entire SDA publishing program, including the Spirit of Prophecy books. The Board is comprised of: the vice president for Publishing, the GC publishing director and associate director, the EGW estate director, the president and publishing director for each division, and seven publishing house managers.

On Monday, March 24th the first devotional was presented by Pastor Pardon Mwansa, GC Vice-President for Publishing. Tuesday’s devotional was given by Pastor Jim Nix, Director for the EGW Estate. He gave a thought provoking message. Then on Wednesday and Thursday we were honored to listen to Pastor Alejandro Bullon, a retired SAD evangelist and author. Each day, after the devotional time, attendees spent 15 minutes praying and asking God to guide their hearts and minds as they discussed and voted on important issues and decisions.

Among the important decisions and agreements determined during this meeting were:

1. To update the GC Working Policy regarding our publishing department and publishing houses, adjusting to new realities of our time, and helping the publishing houses to work in harmony.

2. To emphasize the mass production and distribution of our literature by local church members,

   a) To inspire each member with the slogan: One Adventist, One Book;
   b) To produce a new missionary book every year;
   c) To on 2009 a world Missionary Book about The Second Coming of Jesus;

3. To name 2013 as the “Year of the Literature Evangelist”;

4. To emphasize the recruiting program for LEs with the goal of One Church, One L;.

5. To improve the student program by recruiting in our schools and in the local churches;

6. To hold classes in each school that teach the new pastors about the publishing ministry and to require each student to work at least 300 hours selling books as a LE;

7. To appoint a publishing coordinator in each local church and to train them according to the Church Manual;

8. To produce several sets of books to be sold by our LEs;

9. To produce a new devotional book containing LE testimonies from each Union.

During this event we also enjoyed listening to the reports given by each division publishing director about the work in his territory. It was amazing to hear how God is working through the publishing ministry around the world. I was amazed to see how the Holy Spirit worked among those of us present during these four intense days. Together, and with God’s grace, we accomplish many things.
