60 Baptized, More Expected

Literature Evangelism, solid Bible work, and church member participation were the keys to helping to bring more than 100 people to the point of decision in the Rochester, New York area.

It all started in the spring of 2007 when Pastor Tim Bailey contact the Conrad Mcknight, then Review and Herald Youth Literature Director, to see if he could arranged to have student Literature Evangelists come to work with their church for the summer.

Pastor Bailey worked extensively with the publishing ministry in the past. He was well aware of the contacts that could be gained and impact made by combining literature evangelism, Bible work and evangelistic meetings.

The churches in the area were planning to hold evangelistic meetings in the fall. The speakers were the members themselves, everyone was actively involved in the outreach. They just needed to be sure that there would be people in the seats when the meetings started.

God blessed and Mr. McKnight was able to arrange to have a team of 16 students come and work in the Rochester area. Four Bible workers were contracted to come and the church members were ready. From the beginning everyone could see the Lord blessing. Bible study requests started to come in as the books went out.

Each day the students would come back with stories of how they were able to make divine appointments and reach people who were truly seeking for something better. When the student Literature Evangelists left the area they could not have imagined the results of their efforts.

After they left the area pastors, Bible workers and church members continued to follow up on the interest. In the fall an evangelistic campaign was held and in the following months people started to make decisions for Christ.

To date 60 people have been baptized and 40 more are preparing for baptism. The New York Conference is anxious to have Literature Evangelists come back to their area to continue the work that was started this summer. They have planned for this to be an annual event.
